Admissions

We are delighted that you are considering Dunton Green Primary School for your child.

Dunton Green Primary School is a community primary school. Kent County Council is the admission authority for the school and is responsible for determining the school's admission arrangements.

If you would like to visit us before making an application, please see our Come and See Us! page or contact the school office. We would be very pleased to show you around.

Starting school in Reception

Children are normally admitted to Reception in the September following their fourth birthday.

Applications for Reception places are made through the local authority where you live. For families living in Kent, applications should be made through Kent County Council's Primary School Admissions service.

Kent County Council publishes the application timetable, admission arrangements and oversubscription criteria for community and voluntary controlled schools each year.

For children starting Reception in September 2027, applications should be made through Kent County Council's primary admissions process.

The school's Published Admission Number (PAN) is 30 pupils for each year group.

How places are allocated

As a community school, Dunton Green Primary School does not set its own oversubscription criteria.

Where there are more applications than places available, Kent County Council applies its published admission arrangements and oversubscription criteria for community and voluntary controlled primary schools.

Full details of the current criteria and how they are applied can be found on the Kent County Council website.

Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) that names Dunton Green Primary School are admitted through the statutory EHCP process rather than through the normal oversubscription arrangements.

Deferred entry and part-time attendance

Children are entitled to a full-time Reception place from the September following their fourth birthday.

Parents may request that their child starts school later in the school year, provided that the place is taken up before the child reaches compulsory school age and within the academic year for which the place was offered.

Parents may also request that their child attends part-time until they reach compulsory school age.

If you would like to discuss deferred entry or part-time attendance, please contact the school office.

Further information about school starting age is available from Kent County Council.

Summer-born children

Parents of children born between 1 April and 31 August may, in certain circumstances, request admission to Reception outside their child's normal age group.

Requests are considered in accordance with Kent County Council's admission arrangements and the Department for Education's guidance.

Parents considering this option are encouraged to contact Kent County Council and the school as early as possible to discuss their child's circumstances.

In-year admissions

If you would like your child to join Dunton Green Primary School after the start of Reception, or at any point during Years 1 to 6, this is known as an in-year admission.

Parents should complete a Kent County Council In-Year Admissions Form (IYAF) and send the completed form directly to the school.

You are very welcome to contact us before applying. We can tell you whether there is currently space in the relevant year group, arrange a visit and talk to you about how we support children joining us during the school year.

However, availability can change and a place can only be formally offered following receipt and consideration of an application.

Completed forms can be returned to:

Waiting lists

Where a year group is full, applications will be considered in accordance with Kent County Council's admission arrangements.

Information about waiting lists, including how long they are maintained and how places are prioritised, can be found within Kent County Council's current admission arrangements.

Parents should be aware that a child's position on a waiting list can change as new applications are received, because places are prioritised according to the published oversubscription criteria rather than the date on which an application was made.

Admission appeals

Parents have a legal right to appeal if their child is refused a place at Dunton Green Primary School.

Appeals are arranged in accordance with the statutory School Admission Appeals Code.

For Reception applications made as part of the normal admissions round, Kent County Council publishes an annual appeals timetable.

For in-year applications, information about appealing will be provided if a place cannot be offered.

Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan

Applications for children with an Education, Health and Care Plan are managed through the statutory SEND process rather than the usual school admissions process.

Parents should contact their local authority SEND team regarding the naming of a school within an EHCP.

Further information for Kent families is available through Kent County Council's SEND services and the Kent Local Offer.

Moving into the area

Families move to Dunton Green and the surrounding area throughout the year and we are always happy to hear from prospective families.

If you are moving into the area, please contact us. We can discuss current availability, arrange a tour and help you understand the in-year application process.

Please do not remove your child from their existing school until a new school place has been confirmed.
