Curriculum

At Dunton Green we aim to foster a love of learning through a broad and balanced curriculum, which is relevant to the needs of a rapidly changing world. We are committed to providing a stimulating environment in which the children’s work is valued and their knowledge, experience, imaginative understanding and self-expression can flourish.

All of our pupils have access to the full National Curriculum which provides opportunities for learning outside the classroom, as well as participating in a range of educational visits.

In the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1, we use Little Wandle scheme for Phonics and to teach reading.

In addition a range of visitors add to the curriculum offer. The visitors include Church leaders, theatre companies and dance companies.

We base our teaching on “Imaginative Learning Projects” which incorporate all foundation subjects into thematic units based on exciting texts within the Power of Reading scheme of work.

By the time pupils at Dunton Green leave to start their secondary education we aim for them to be; academically able, be able to play at least one musical instrument and to read music, to have found a sport they love, be respectful and tolerant of others and to have developed a whole host of wonderful memories and friendships.

We provide a range of parent workshops across the school year to provide relevant information and support for parents and carers. We invite parents in during the spring term to observe a presentation from each class about their learning to parents. In the summer term we provide an opportunity for parents to come in to share in the children’s learning through a ‘celebration of learning in pupil’s books’.

We also benefit from specialist teaching in a number of sports including swimming at Sevenoaks Pool, tag rugby, handball, netball and basketball. There are a number of different sports clubs for the children to join. Sports Day is also held on our beautiful field once a year and we actively encourage competition.

Peripatetic teachers offer tuition in piano, guitar and brass instruments. We are always looking to expand what we offer in terms of musical tuition. Peripatetic lessons are charged for by the tutors and information can be found in the office if you are interested in these sessions.

We operate an open door policy and welcome any visitors who would like a tour of our school or to find out more about the learning ethos at Dunton Green. Please contact the school office to make an appointment.
